Growing Coffee in Denmark

Conversations with POMA

Coffee's future depends on questions the industry is only starting to answer: how plants cope with a changing climate, and where great coffee can be grown in the decades ahead.

We want to be close to the people finding out, which is why we're partnering with POMA, the Copenhagen-based coffee research and cultivation company.

POMA works with scientists, farmers and leading universities on controlled trials in Denmark and with producers around the world, studying how coffee responds to a changing environment. Their research includes collaborations with the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), combining agronomic, technical and scientific expertise to explore new possibilities for coffee cultivation.

For us, it's a chance to learn from that work and be part of where specialty coffee goes next.

Danish-Grown Coffee

The most exciting part is happening closer to home, Denmark.

At POMA's greenhouse in Taastrup, just outside Copenhagen, they simulate altitude and climate using algorithm-driven control of light, humidity and temperature.

After years of experimentation, they've produced a harvest of Danish-grown coffee.

We've secured a small allocation for the Hagen community to taste it, and this is only the beginning. We'll be working with POMA on several exciting projects.
